Equality North Dakota is a statewide gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender rights organization. Our purposes include:

and building strong, cohesive, affirming communities for GLBT North
Dakotans;

Educating
GLBT North Dakotans and their allies about our strengths, our
communities and the barriers which we face to full and free
participation in our society;

Lobbying
state decision-makers to pass legislation that guarantees equal
treatment for GLBT North Dakotans;

Working
to remove all barriers to equal and fair treatment of GLBT North
Dakotans.

North Dakota Task Forces

"Vote No on
Measure #1" Coalition
Work with supportive
organizations and individuals to defeat Measure #1 on the November
2004 ballot, which would amend the North Dakota constitution to
prohibit same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partner
benefits.

Dakota Safe Schools Initiative
Introduce
legislation to create a “Safe Schools/Youth Protection” initiative
that would protect GLBT and other youth from harassment and discrimination
in the schools.

Dakota Human Rights Commission
Build support for legislation to create a Human Rights Commission that includes protection for people who identify
as or who are perceived as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

Dakota Employment Non-Discrimination Act
Build support for legislation prohibiting employment discrimination based
on sexual orientation or perceived sexual
orientation.

Building
Cooperate
with potential allies among churches, progressives and other groups who
have been traditionally disadvantaged.

Crimes Legislation
Build
support for legislation to outlaw hate crimes in North Dakota against GLBT
people and other groups who have been traditionally discriminated against.
Tracking hate crimes in the state will be part of our effort.
