Safe school bill dies By Janell Cole The Forum - March 21, 2003
The
Senate changed its mind Thursday on a bill designed to prevent
discrimination against school students by other students or teachers.
Senate
Bill 2216, which passed the Senate last month, 27-20, came back for
another vote Thursday after the House amended it.
This
time, the Senate killed the bill, 25-16, mostly along party lines. Two
Republican senators who joined the Democratic caucus in voting for it
again were Ray Holmberg of Grand Forks and Tim Flakoll of Fargo.
